I went to Wae Sano Village, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara last week for business travel. Wae Sano is famous because of Sano Nggoang Crater Lake. Although it's quite far from Labuan Bajo, no decent road signs and streetlights, the road is quite bumpy, many foreigners came to see this lake.

Sano Nggoang Lake |
Sano Nggoang Lake is really peaceful to see because of not many tourists visits this volcanic lake. There are no water sport attractions such as a banana boat or canoeing because of the acid water is really corrosive. You can find almost no local people swim there because they can't swim well and there were several drowning cases.
I slept in a very well homestay, owned by Petrus. To be honest, I was surprised when I saw the homestay for the first time! The building was nice, the bed and bathroom were clean.
Electricity was only available from 6 to 10 pm. It's because electricity poles have not yet reached this village but some people like Petrus has an electric generator. Please note that there is no internet and very lack of cell signal too!

Homestay with lake view |
Petrus and his wife serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for me and my friends. The meal was so delicious! We ate black glutinous rice mixed with white rice, vegetables, and meat. Also, they have good coffee from their garden.

West Manggarai coffee |
There's a natural hot spring only several meters away from the homestay. You can wash your face or take a bath here. It is an open space so make sure you have clothes on!
Probably Petrus is the only one local who can speak English pretty fluently in here. If you don't want to get lost, just go here and feel the warm hospitality from Petrus and his family.
